Register trace utility?
Does anyone know a good shareware / freeware registry tracer? I want to know what registry keys when a program tries to find I run it, so I can import from my backup. (Background is that I recently upgraded my OS from 98 to XP using an OEM installation, which of course blew away My Registry – as I Soon, I had performed in the original. Reg files so I could later re-import market institutions – XP Files and Settings Transfer not get the old registry entries to set on my new system, or so I have to import keys or reinstall apps, and I prefer to import keys. I've already introduced the obvious branches, but some applications are still complaining, so they have to find more obscure keys. I can not just import all branches because XP does not like it, and fair enough because some of them cover system internals.)
Sysinternals Regmon will help you here. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Regmon.mspx It's free and Microsoft recently acquired Sysinternals, so you know it's a decent company. Enjoy
