How do I clean a knife that opens it?

I have an old knife that can not open, is dirty with grease and dirt and there. I have to know how to clean without runing it. It is an ancient relic from my dad. Please give me some good tips. You are so helpful, everyone seems to think WD40 work. I'll see what happens. I appreciate honest answers, these are great!

Get a spray can of WD-40 for use in the knife. Just put the knife in a container that can get dirty, then spray the garbage out of it inside and out. The work of the action of the blade until it opens smoothly. If still dirty after it work, you can run under hot water, the hotter it can get from the sink. Use hot water because it evaporates very quickly and gently towel dried, then coated with WD-40 can prevent further rusting. Good luck.
