My wife had her IM open one days. I saw people names in her contacts did not know. What should I think?

I do not IM, I think it's a pain in the ass. But when she left her open, I decided to just a little Looky-lou. I saw people names in her contacts that I did not know. They had only their e-mail addresses. I asked her and she said they do not know how there. Should I believe her? She must have it right yet? They do not just magically pop up in her contact list do they?. I really do not know about IM "Ing. I really do not care even if she does. But we will try to be friends, I would like to know if they are honest with me.
