Holster Baby
Much press is given the aging Baby Boomers, who send their children to college and in many cases, caring for their elderly parents at the same time.
In my case, my mother died after a stroke after two months of decline in 1987. I just graduated from my program for Nurse Practitioner and came home on Father's Day.
This was the same day my mother had her stroke.
Gradual decline of my father lasted more than thirteen years. He had Alzheimer's disease and was in and out of consciousness for most of the time. I took care of Nursing Administrators Interior, and had to move to a nursing home to another when they "ran out of money."
This type of experiences in which they feel powerless to help a person who deeply loves from the first memory, they can give lessons in surrender and an abandonment of all memory past a simple acceptance of what is seen and not seen at this very moment.
My father died seven years ago. I am reconciled to all that has happened between us, and all members of my family.
Enter Marybeth Kuznik, Executive Director of Vote Pa. She is dedicated to bringing to vote (the machine) the reform of the state of Pennsylvania. She was one of the people who went to and I met at the State Democratic Committee meeting in our group, Progressives for Pennsylvania, held our attention from the health reform conference in order to educate the state Democratic Party on HB 1660 and SB 300: The best single plan for paying state in the country, at this time.
The conference was a Success! People are excited by the bill. As Michael Moore said in a recent conference call that was privileged to attend, people are prepared for this. Getting through the legislative process is the challenge.
We collect stories of health care delivery nightmare, and Marybeth gave us the most painful story I hear, will soon be on YouTube and on our website, the Progressives 4 Pennsylvania, as well as our blog P4P.
Merle Kuznik, 89 Marybeth year-old mother, broke his right hip after suffering a major blow to his left side. The nursing home was, Wood Haven Health Care Center in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, insisted that Merle Kuznik apply for Medicaid to pay for expenses not paid by Medicare.
When documentation was not completed in a timely manner, local police went to his room, a nursing home, with guns visible, but in their cases, and we said he should go to jail for 3 days, if you did not pay.
Marybeth, intelligent person he is, went to KDKA-TV and told the story.
Our bill, HB 1660 and SB 300 pays for long term care.
If our bill was in place now, Marybeth and Merle was going through degrading experience.
The question is, how many other similar experiences in our seniors who are experiencing the worst kind of abuses we know that is not a civil society until we have a single payer system, created in our country?
How many suffer in silence because, as Merle Kuznica, unable to speak or move, because they are not paralyzed? or worse, because they are mentally incapacitated?
This story shows why fighting tirelessly by a unique system of delivering health care payer.
